Al Statz, M&AMI, CBA, ASA
Al founded Exit Strategies in 2002 to help company owners exit right and retire well. Al is a seasoned M&A advisor and valuation expert. His areas of focus include manufacturing, distribution, technology and service industries. Previously Al was president of IDC, a $20M manufacturer of robotic devices for industrial automation. After merging with seven other companies and acquiring an east coast business, IDC was sold to multi-national Danaher Corp (NYSE: DHR). Earlier in his career Al integrated business acquisitions, developed and launched products, led sales & marketing teams and built worldwide distribution channels. Al holds Merger & Acquisition Master Intermediary (M&AMI), Certified Business Appraiser (CBA) and Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designations. He has an MBA from Golden Gate University and a BS in engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He serves on the board of directors and is currently president of the California Association of Business Brokers. He lives in Sonoma County with his wife and sons. Adam Wiskind, CBI
Over Adam’s 25 year career he has been an entrepreneur, a quality auditor and a director for a global business-to-business professional services company in the manufacturing and distribution sectors. Adam has expertise in operations management, business development, strategy and sustainability. His broad career path gives him the ability to work with a wide variety of businesses and to guide owners through the entire M&A process. Adam has served on advisory boards of various mission-driven organizations including B-Corporation, the Forest Stewardship Council and SCS Global Services. He volunteers as a mentor for Pacific Community Ventures. Adam has a BA from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Presidio School of Management, and has earned the Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) accreditation from the International Business Brokers Association. Bob Altieri, CBA
Bob has been providing business brokerage and valuation services since the 1980’s. Prior to joining Exit Strategies, Bob founded Leapfrog Software and in 2007 sold the IP of the company’s flagship product. Bob has participated in the valuation and sale of hundreds of businesses including retail, service, distribution and manufacturing businesses, and professional practices. He has performed business valuations for SBA lending, divorce, estate and gift tax, and many other purposes. Bob is accredited by the Institute of Business Appraisers as a Certified Business Appraiser. He earned a BS in electrical engineering from Indiana Institute of Technology and an MBA from California State University. CA DRE #01995309
Bob Bates, CPA, CFE, CVA
Bob is a Certified Valuation Analyst, CPA and Certified Fraud Examiner. He has been a CFO/Controller for over 25 years in various industries in multiple countries. He has founded, owned, bought, sold, valued, raised money for and held senior management positions with public and private companies. Bob worked at KPMG where he had experience with acquisition due diligence and audit preparation. He is a member of the Forensic Expert Witness Association, Association for Corporate Growth and Accountant Lawyer Alliance. His B.S.-Management is from Bucknell University. Bob lives in the Bay Area and has traveled extensively throughout Asia and Latin America. He has competed nationally in track and field and has finished several triathlons.
Don Ross, CBB
Before joining Exit Strategies as a business broker, Don worked as a contract CFO/controller. He has owned and operated several businesses including farm and industrial equipment dealerships, a chain of retail stores, and a direct marketing catalog company. Don worked as a regional director of the legal publishing division of McGraw-Hill and was a marketing consultant to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Venue Management Group. Don graduated from Stanford University in 1971. He has 3 children and 4 grandchildren and lives in Sonoma County with his wife Michele. CA DRE #01871910
Jerry Matecun, CBA
Jerry is a Certified Business Appraiser (CBA) in our Orange County California office. His financial expertise spans M&A, security analysis and business valuation, as well as investment research and portfolio management. Jerry co-founded Kalydus Asset Advisors and led its research team in all phases of security analysis and risk management. Previously he was a research analyst with Banc of America Securities. Jerry’s M&A background includes dozens of valuations and deals across multiple industries. He has an MBA in Finance from Golden Gate University and BA from Aquinas College, and he completed Oxford University’s Private Equity program. Jerry has traveled to 27 countries and has studied and taught in Spain and Peru, and is an active Rotarian.
Jim Leonhard, CVA
Jim has been providing M&A brokerage and business valuation services since 2005. Prior to joining us, he founded two telecommunications consulting firms, one of which he successfully and profitably sold. His experience includes leadership adviser to for-profit and non-profit organizations; partner in a prestigious litigation support consulting firm; senior vice president of an international coatings company with P&L responsibility for a $20 million business; and director of international operations for a division of a major chemical company. Jim is a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA). He has a BS in engineering from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from Harvard. Joseph Miesch, MBA
Joe has been advising on business sales and acquisitions for over 25 years and has facilitated over 200 transactions. He uses his experience to guide sellers and buyers through the complex business sale process. Helping clients realize their goals and dreams is what drives Joe to deliver great service and outcomes. Joe specializes in selling private schools and medical service businesses in California. Early in his career Joe worked for an international public accounting firm. He also owned and operated a successful sales and marketing firm. Joe has a BA degree from Syracuse University and an MBA from the University of Nevada, Reno. Joe Orlando, ASA
Joe is an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) and is Vice President of Valuation Services for Exit Strategies. Over the past 15 years he has valued hundreds of companies, representing nearly every industry. Focus areas include technology (software, ecommerce and online content), wineries, craft beverages and sports. Before joining Exit Strategies Joe led the business valuation practice for Frank, Rimerman + Co. LLP, a growing Northern California public accounting firm. Joe’s professional background includes technology investment banking and M&A, strategic planning for a public company and several entrepreneurial endeavors. He has served as President, Vice President, Treasurer and Business Valuation Discipline Director for the American Society of Appraisers’ NorCal chapter, and is a founding member of the Fair Value Forum. Joe has an MBA in Finance from Georgetown University and a BA in Economics from St. Lawrence University. He lives in Camas WA, just across the Columbia River from Portland OR, with his wife and twin boys.
Ken McCauley, CPA, ABV
Ken provides a broad range of business valuation services for clients. He holds the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential and is a licensed CPA. Prior to joining Exit Strategies, Ken was a partner in AL Nella & Company, LLP Certified Public Accountants in San Francisco, where he specialized in financial reporting, business valuation services and cash flow analysis for small to medium sized businesses. Ken and his partner sold the firm in 2018. Ken’s background includes financial audit experience with a national accounting firm and multiple corporate finance positions. Ken graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in Accounting. He has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations over the years and is currently active on the Stewardship Team at the Center for Spiritual Living.
Kevin has over 10 years of successful M&A and business transaction experience, specializing in manufacturing, distribution, service, technology and electronics companies. Throughout his career, Kevin gained invaluable experience in manufacturing & technology sales, marketing and business development in management positions at Siemens, Marubeni, Tyco Electronics, Itochu and Acumen. As an entrepreneur, he has started, acquired, managed and successfully sold several businesses. Kevin is a member of M&A Source and CABB, and has a B.S. in Marketing. Louis Cionci, ABV
Louis has been providing strategic valuation and M&A services for over 15 years, and has managed over $250 million worth of transactions. His goal in transactions is to help seller clients obtain the best price and terms available in the market, and help buyers obtain economic opportunity. Louis worked as a director and senior associate for two other investment banking firms where he served international and domestic clients in acquisition strategy development and buy- and sell-side representation. Louis is an alumni of Laventhol & Horwath (L&H), a former top ten consulting firm. Michael is an M&A broker with a love of entrepreneurship and helping small business owners succeed. He specializes in the e-commerce, technology, education and health care sectors. Michael has owned and led multiple private businesses during his career, and he remains an investor in a leading pediatric care facility. He knows what is takes to succeed as a business owner. Michael has a MS degree in Instructional Technology from Utah State University, a BS in integrated sciences from BYU and is a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) candidate. He volunteers at the local schools, is a veteran of the Army National Guard, is fluent in Spanish and is active in Rotary International. Roy Martinez, CVA, CBB
Roy has over 20 years of business management, venture capital, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and business valuation experience. He handles main street business brokerage and middle market M&A transactions. Previously Roy was CFO of a $25M wine fulfillment company and multiple satellite communications companies. He has six years of venture capital and private equity experience: two years with a VC firm and 4 years at Intel Capital.
